Hi, I'm Sarah Tyree.
WHERE I COME FROM
A native of Arizona, I was born in Laveen and raised in Maryvale. I grew up in a single parent home, surviving abuse and poverty. Looking at my environment, I saw a lot of people living paycheck to paycheck and never leaving our community because they couldn't see past the bills and responsibilities we think come first. I heard things like, "You'll never amount to anything", "It could be worse", "Well, my parents did it". I felt the weight of those words piling up and I knew, that was not the life I wanted. I refuse to be trapped by boundaries that I did not give myself.
I graduated from Trevor Browne High School at the age of 17. After graduating, I joined the United States Army and served my country for 8 years. At the age of 21, I received my first Undergrad Degree in Social Work, followed by a second in Political Science. I then earned my Master's Degree in Social Work as well.
After college, my work in the non-profit sector allowed me to work with legislators in Tennessee and Utah. Providing knowledge, testifying in committee hearings and writing bills, that now help provide safety and security for constituents. It also allowed me to work together with other vulnerable and systemically oppressed populations.
I currently serve as the Medical Special Needs Coordinator at Luke Air Force Base. Where I'm able to continue giving back to my sisters and brothers in arms, by serving their families.
As a small business owner, I believe in autonomy. More than ever, I appreciate the freedom of choice, because it has allowed me to step away from a world of survival and move into a world of abundance!
I am a firm believer in justice for all and not just some. I believe not just in equality, but in equity and that together, as a community, everyone can succeed!
DEFINING MY MISSION STATEMENT
Take Back 2020
When I decided to run for State Senate, I decided that I was running to make forward changes in our community. My goal is to give the first inclusive input in the seat. To me, the Take Back 2020 is about allowing ourselves to be able to make the changes necessary for a better Arizona. It's about overcoming the current system and bringing Arizona to a point to take back our power, take back our voice, and take back our vote.
The Take Back 2020 is a movement here to give us a voice and empower the changes of the community. To become more familiar with the movement and join the conversation, attend a "Take Back 2020 Q&A Session with Sarah Tyree."
MY CAMPAIGN INITIATIVES EXPLAINED
Surprise billing sometimes also called “Balance billing”, is the practice of a healthcare provider billing a patient for the difference between what the patient's health insurance chooses to reimburse and what the provider chooses to charge.
Arizona is one of a few states where we only have partial protection against surprise billing. While I fight for full protection and prohibition of surprise billing, let me and my team teach you how to keep these less than pleasant bills to a minimum.
Healthcare should be a right not a financial privilege! Everyone deserves to be treated with prompt, personalized care that is respectable and informational, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, profession or social class. Join us at our next event.
Our children often spend 5 - 10 hours a day out of the home, with a teacher and a classroom of their peers. This is where they used to learn about responsibility, life skills, emotional intelligence and how to interact with others in a healthy way.
Public School funding continues to be cut drastically low and educational priorities are so skewed, that youth are no longer being taught about the importance of finances or life skills. So many of our youth are joining the community unprepared for life as an adult. Our youth are attempting to enter the workforce without any dexterity, because schools no longer teach trade skills classes such as welding, woodworking or technology.
Our teachers are coming out of pocket for supplies, they’re being told that their time off is not important, that maintaining a classroom is more important than family emergencies, their health and career progression. They are being over worked with classroom sizes too large for effective engagement with students. Teachers are expected to also be therapists/social workers and provide services for students, when there should be at least one social worker in each school that can provide community resources for families.
Our teachers need to be adequately paid, our classrooms need to be fully supplied, our youth need to be taught life skills that will help them succeed and we need to support having social workers in schools. We need to invest in our futures and our futures ARE our children!
MY CAMPAIGN INITIATIVES EXPLAINED
Our veterans fought hard and sometimes with their lives for our freedom. Even though we’ve been some of the those lucky enough to come back, war leaves scars, both seen and unseen. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, there are over 522,000 veterans that reside in Arizona. It can take months to get seen at the VA clinic downtown and even here, at the North West VA Clinic. What does this mean for you? For your spouse, your relative or your neighbor? It means they could be in dire physical or mental health need, and not be seen in time. Veterans need to be able to see community providers, not only when the VA can’t support them in a timely manner, but simply if they feel there is a provider within their community that they can easily access.
As a child, I spent time in the system. As an adult, I have worked in multiple capacities as a provider. There is a very large and dangerous misconception that children are much safer in DCS/DJJ, when in fact many children suffer more while in custody. I believe that we must bring this issue back to the community, that we support our own. I believe we should continue to fund and strengthen our Prevention and Early Intervention programs that not only keep families together but teach parents and care givers healthy parenting skills.
Our County Assessor isn’t the first to take part in illegal adoptions of Arizona and International children. Our children are NOT objects or possessions. They are tiny, innocent human beings, that belong with and should grow up being loved by their family! If you take part in tearing families apart or selling our children, we will stop you and take you down!
